Touchy touch!

Touchy = oversensitive; irascible
Irascible = susceptible of ire or anger.

“Touch-me-not” is the name of a weed, which is also very slowly facing extinction.
Children enjoy touching it, since its leaves instantly fade and close down for a while!

This ‘touch’, has been looked at by people since ancient times.

It is interesting to take a look at some of the situations involving touch.

Some people are very sensitive to touch. Tickle them under armpit and they jump with a forced laughter.
Children play that ‘touch’ and ‘you are out’. In that ‘Kabbadi’, touch and cross over the line back, the touched player is out.

The list is endless, and suffice it to close here with the latest,

The ancient touch theory is what has turned very very ‘touchy’ of late!
The reason seems quite simple.
They have suggested a lot many of conscious ‘touches’ and they all seem to ‘elude’ our meaningful perception!
These touches have faded out. Not just the touches, the very ‘files attached’ got obliterated!

Like to take a look at few of them?

During that daily ritual after a thread ceremony, the touches with specified fingers are notoriously complex!
When somebody is famished, it is hardly the time to touch singular grains with cumbersome combination of fingers, mutter something (mercifully nobody notices), and swallow it!
The spouse is to touch the husband’s shoulder blade with a grass blade, (they are very fussy about the correct ends, as if they are verily negative or positive live wires with a DC current!).
The sacred thread for the holy knot during wedding is to be ‘touched’ by elders all around, just before the ‘big moment’!
The offering to deity is touched by devotees, before it is offered.

And so on….
How long do we continue with these meaningless touches?
Well slowly it has to fade out.
Meaningless, outdated, irrelevant provisions of any enactment is struck off!
Here, the problem is, there is no majority vote stipulated, needed to ‘deal’ with it.
Whether fortunately or unfortunately, Hinduism is indeed a way of life, and not a religion, to be rigorously enforced upon any body!

Then the obviously logical, but a bit subtle rule that we try to follow, before we try to do away with such touchy touches (and why just touches, even untouchable provisions like 3-day ordeals too) seems to read as :

Any way, these practices are fading out quite fast. Choices have already been made. The purposes of ‘taking a re-look’ seem to go no farther than ensuring that we do not confront any social exclusion, due to any inadvertent, unforeseen reasons like a cluster-cloud effect or so!

Tail piece: (perhaps that is why the thread renewal programme is the isolated ritual that continues to attract maximum numbers for that ‘muster-roll-signing’!

What ever the bulk majority of people do, the essence of spiritual traditions are not and have never been at the mercy of ‘present generation’ at any point of ‘time’!
Somewhere somebody gets helplessly pushed into spirituality, and the whole of the text lays bare before such person in the eternal ‘web’ to just read it, eyes closed!

( For instance, somebody closely known to me is already on the job. He has dug out some touch system, where touching the tips of fingers of same palm for sometime, has given that person immense benefits for acute & chronic ailments! He told me it is some ‘Mudra-vigyan’ or so! And he knows it will not stop at the superficial layer of stupid cures! It would take him literally “places” (!) , reminding him perhaps of that “nadi” quack who can feel the life energy and not just the pulse with a mere touch!)

Now, you agree, I had to lay bare, the ‘touchy’ aspect of it all, “once and for all”!

Chained?

Vulnerability

Human beings, as also other living beings are 'pre-embedded' with that
survival instinct, and therefore the impusive acts of 'self-preservation'.

We tend to over-use it, becoming 'defensive' at every encounter with somebody
we do not like to accept 'totally'.

And then, it becomes our 'default' behaviour,
invoking a vulnerability of a different kind!
See, when we describe our dear and very close friends, we say,
" I can be totally myself with him (no formalities, pretenses, or defences required)"!
What happens when we consciously drop that defence and offer our vulnerability?
When I looked back, this is what occured to me:

Very casually, I attempted a question, and was chosen for the appealing answer.
But my heart goes out for one of the answers which should have been considered by a very very logical brain.
The profile of that answerer appealed to me and also ‘caught’ my attention!

A Call Center

My friend, who happens to be busy now trying out various types of ‘business-ventures’, after having surprisingly failed at a steady one held on to for several years, came up to ‘consult’ about the layout for a ‘brochure’ to persuade prospective students to join the proposed institute/training center for a “call center” job.
Obviously, the present tie-up is with just two modest companies, who perhaps cannot even afford the expenses of a very preliminary process of recruitment of their own! And the course-coordinator who accompanied this friend was ‘hooked’ up to stake a one-hour meet session, with me, just because he has already invested his commitment with this friend, for setting up a training center!

The discussion , for me , turned out to be a very ‘refreshing’ experience!
It lasted for an hour (very short period, by the usual sessions that I normally enjoy (!) at the expense of others(!), because they had to race against time to keep other appointments, having overshot their own allotted time-slot with me!

They produced a brief write up, defining a call centre, its uses, and then summing up with Job opportunities.
I suggested to turn it upside down in presentation to start with “Job Opportunities” to entice the reader to move further. Like….

to make available,
a virtual help desk at the door step for their
prospective customers, clients, buyers (as an after sales service ) etc…
if, you have good,
communication skills,
proactive attitude,
‘satisfaction-assuring’ abilities,
Screening abilities (to properly channelise the calls to proper person up the ladder)
Etc… etc….

The coordinator said he had two years of experience at “training” students/candidates for manning call centers. I at once proceeded to bring out the distinction between “training” and “teaching” ! One can ‘train’ even an animal, but to teach, you need a ‘human’ being as a student! Even with animals, after training, the circus animals happen to fascinatingly impress the audience much more than the ‘content-value’ of the sniffer-dogs that are trained by police personnels! One interesting aspect about training a police dog is that the well trained dog happens to always excel the trainer himself, for obvious reasons of highly enhanced, and more importantly, un-adulterated perception abilities gifted by nature! Since the dogs are trained, not taught, they can be fooled/misled/deceived by an expert criminal !
And, the apathy of us moderners, is that, we inadvertently end up training our children at handling life’s routines, instead of teaching them, and even ‘boast’ of having groomed them, with good ‘up-bringing’ skills! Here lies one of the clues to the puzzling lack of respect for ‘elders’ when children happen to ‘stand’ on their own, facing real-life situations! The lasting effect of elderly care is relative to what we teach, empowering children to handle any situation, out of the resourcefulness that they can enrich themselves with, when we teach them the ‘learning’ skills well ! We get repaid in the response we receive as their ‘elders’ at a later stage when we ‘retire’ from active life!

Dramatic examples occurred to me during the discussions, to effectively communicate the concepts involved in acquiring communicative skills, customer-retention-skills, seamless transportation of customers to that ‘comfort-zone’ affording an assurance of personalized care response, etc… Despite intense temptations to mention those examples, the elaborate narrative involved in them bringing out , deters me here. For instance, I used real life instances where a person stands at the entrance of a garment shop shouting at the crowd, modulating the voice to barely resemble a warm welcome, where as the noise of road-traffic compels a shrill full-throated audibility-oriented scream! These persons, I explained, end up as shout-centers, as a contrast to the telephone-call-receiving call center person! A good mother, is an example of an expert call-center-jobber, when she identifies/diagnosis the correct reason for each of those instances when the baby gives the same pattern of ‘crying’ call to get the attention (whether it is hunger, sleep, nappy-wetting, insect bite, physical discomfort due to sweat, stuffy clothing, etc.. etc…). However, it is not very wise, to ‘train’ a child to use ‘crying’ as the only means of attracting a mother’s attention, because the child may remain stuck to that stupid trait, even after growing into verbal communication abilities!

I gently summed up saying that I was ‘practically’ better taught into ‘how to end up as a “shut-up-center”….’ for nearly 12 years, so , maybe, I was not very much suited to be consulted about setting up a ‘call-center’ (mentally I recalled all those ‘silence-programs’ I had attended, during the spiritual-oriented Yoga programs I had attended).
That friend in turn summed up, and doing so, he hinted at persuading me to conduct a seminar for the students when the call center becomes functional! (And, I was wondering, if they really knew what it means, to call something a “seminar” ! The origin or the ‘root’ of the word, and its choice, incidentally, happens to prove, yet once again, the ‘uniqueness’ of the priceless gift to humans, the awareness, using which, we have evolved far beyond using the reproductive organs for merely the primitive procreation or rather preservation of our species ! Oh! Mercifully enough, they did not or could not wait to hear this elaboration! The dictionary says, “ a group of advanced students working in a specific subject of study under a teacher’.. … meaning, they are ‘prepared’ to be implanted with a ‘seed’ about a deeper topic, …….. like the present marriage laws suggest, the ideal age of marriage for a girl to be atleast 18, healthy enough to contain a seed !)

Perhaps a Bridge to spirituality?

TRUE ! A simple way to understand this would be to just say that a person who lives a contended life, has no expectations from it, and is therefore in a deep state of acceptance to also accept death cheerfully ! For the more inquisitive,......Once a person can experience life in its fullest dimension, he experiences everything around as a part of himself. He experiences the unlimited nature of his 'self' . For such a person there is no death. It looks like a contradiction, but the only way to understand this is through experience ! This person has experienced the true meaning of death.... it is the absence of life, like darkness is just absence of light and cold is just absence of heat etc... The fear of death can go only with the experience of what it is ! There are time-tested traditional practices to teach this. It can happen even casually, unexpectedly, unawares also to anyone who comes close to death like situation, and mind also ceases for a while, but rare and the experience might create more doubts than clarity , since it happened without preparation of mind, and sharing produces less support , being unique and rare, and less acceptable with a vast majority of scientific , logical people around

Please go to the very basics to understand this. The very early man of ancient days did not need marriage at all ! Reproduction was a natural instinct, and nature allowed it by just satisfying one condition, like in animals, the reproductive age ! Only when self-awareness enhanced, man consciously decided to excercise a choice , now driven by a desire for REFINEMENT !From there on the level of evolvement decided the level of refinement desired, and accordingly more and more selectivity crept in. It reached peaks where, some cultures understood the consciousness, life process, so well, out of deeper perception, that they could clearly perceive the purpose of birth, and very very consciously(much much deeper, than a normal, rational , logical thinking can reach ! ) chose to decide about it far early(even about child marriage) , and so out of tremendous sense of responsibility , prescribed very stringent rules of selectivity criteria for marriage to maximise the possibility of such couples to not only reach peak levels of spirituality, but also to ensure greater progeny of similar types ! In doing so, they could maximise the compatibility of a deeper purpose of life between couples. All this process reduced the original purpose of reproduction to least of importance, though an essentially needed one ! This process not only improved over a period of time, but also sustained for good few centuries !When values were lost, cultural degeneration happened, the capability to understand the intrinsic values of these 'seemingly blind restrictions ' got lessened, the youngsters started questioning the very process ! The questioning is very well justified. The understanding of answers depends upon ability to have deeper level of perception, as well as knowledge of the person giving the answers !Today, those who adhere to traditional methods of 'arranged' marriages do so mostly out of blind faith , this blind faith seeks a consolation from the logical conclusion that "so many ancient people doing it for so long a time could not have gone wrong, or could not have done it without a good reason" ! Such borrowed intelligence is very difficult to LEAN upon when dealing with modern scientific minds !So, if the capability of understanding the purpose of refinement is lost, it is better to go to the basic purpose of just reproduction(like the primitive men), and do not STUPIDLY deprive oneself of ATLEAST the primitive desires and pleasures of mating, according to one's own choice , driven by superficial appearances of beauty ! Any conscious restriction imposed voluntarily on oneself, in any manner, is, to always achieve a refinement in personal characteristics , which ever way you look at it, what ever the situation it is applied to !Choice of birth, the toughest , most complex, most mystic, too was harnessed by intellectual and spiritual excellence by the ancient masters, churning out a well defined methodology ! So, obviously, it also has to be the most difficult of all things to perceive !

Punish Child? Upbringing

"9 years is not a bud ! It is half way through. Not like old times, the child-like innocence is lost very soon in this generation. No harm really, but parents are on a real fast-fast-forward, as far as nipping at the bud is concerned. And the sprawling media content offers tremendous transparency regarding many things that hitherto youths could find for themselves only when they are on their own.Punishment would only foster hatred. The vulnerability of society for a city bred child is by itself a punishment in many ways. We have to participate meaningfully, intensely, wholeheartedly, communicative, and cheerfully, as much as possible (that is if children are really our priority !), in all their activities, and suggest options, explaining the consequences of their choices, and not in the least of all, admit our ignorances and failures, honourably and gracefully. "

A question came up , which I awaited for a long time....
I enjoyed replying, and wonder whether I took care to ensure that it must evoke further queries, because, I do enjoy discussing it often !

I was really awaiting to 'see' this question, and was on the 'look-out' not to miss 'viewing' the question!! Thanks for asking....Also, a parallel question, where do you "hear" ? Well the answer is the same. The clue first.. (the clue would help really 'seeing/perceiving/looking-at/... the answer)... When you fall asleep, (mind you, some people CAN sleep with their EYES OPEN), how do you fail to hear(& perhaps see)?Now the answer... It is the energy in us (call it by any fanciful name like 'life', 'soul', spirit . .. anything), that actually enables us to use the organs to allow information to reach within us, where, as you rightly said, science will tell you which nerves etc will translate the message and compare it with your 'cognitive' faculties, compare / contrast etc with memory bank, and deliver it to the mind for its "judgement"(also called thoughts!).And shall I further raise a quarrel? A loose theory then(as I would like to call it!)......... What you ACTUALLY call as green MAY be my RED (as I see it) but we are comfortable, because all are TAUGHT to 'call' it so since we were toddlers !

"Yes , it gives a tremendous boost to our ego..... But if you look deeper, real saving of anyones life happens when you help that person to understand(having understood for yourself first), the true purpose of life and help that person , persuade the person to work towards fulfulling it. I think this would save that person's MANY LIFETIMES (instead of just this life)!

Democracy and freedom has spread out at its best ever. The understanding of the true sense of it does not match the number of people who inherited it without deserving it. Hate and anger is the only possibility when duty towards society cannot be implemented with the same emphasis with which freedom is sought to be enforced.

Re incarnation ?

This was a question which appeared in Yahoo answers... I too attempted and gave a brief answer... But the asker chose this one as a 'best answer'... Though elaborate, it gives a fair idea about it... But very difficult for logical reasoning mind to accept it on face value... yet worth reading..

In a recent e-mail, I received this query.... I thank the questioner for having given me an opportunity to look at it afresh.

What happens to a person who could not find a Guru or vice-versa a Guru has
not yet 'identified' him? This is a very pertinent, natural and logical question that
should arise to a genuine seeker ? But when one undertakes a sincere journey
towards the source of this very question (like any other such question), the
answer unfolds itself and surfaces 'prominently' . How does it happen?.... Well,
there are various levels of consciousness... Normal humans perceive things around through their 5 sense organs. Self awareness consciously happens to a few . Yet a few among those, care to look at this 'awareness' and when this quality of 'watching' improves, there is a possibility of 'stepping' into a new dimension of perception other than time and space opens up. When this happens, one discovers for oneself that he is, he was and he will be, never alone ! There has been always someone to take care of you. Gratitude with tears is the only way one can experience this. Great masters have always been working towards creating a situation where, everyone has an opportunity to naturally 'look' into oneself.
