Even repetitiousness means the
'same'... !
Even the 'talk' about the need to
change ourselves, fatigues the mind, when repeated too often!
(At least why don't they change the way
it is told! The way we count the change (small coins) doesn't
change, for instance... and they keep repeating that 'change' is
permanent..... no, it is in short supply always!)
If we try to list out the things we do
not mind being repeated, it is going to be a very brief one, and it
contains those items, which seldom get repeated!
When we feel inclined to become a
little devotional (just to try it out and see how it feels,) the
typical lines of a bhajan tires us out too soon, with its endless
repetitions and we wonder, how those dedicated devotees manage it!
Colours of dress were repetitious until
recently! Printed designs brought some cheer, but only for a short
while... the bulk of varieties at a cloth store has brought a
unique kind of 'repeat-fatigue'... the previous experience of wading
through too many of varieties seems to remind us of a
'repeat-of-same-exercise' in the offing(not the availability of
varieties... the thought of 'having to go through the tedious task
of going through so many varieties yet again!... The sales person
looks repetitiously-cheerful each time we visit!!!)
Oh! Life seems a repetition already,
with even the 'talk' ... about rebirth cycles!
And our blogs?... Sermons, advises,
suggestions, reminders...?
Somewhere, the mind ... our mind it
is... holds us in a grip of indecisiveness, when it disallows a
choice to us, to look at things afresh! And it is the 'repetition of
this indecisiveness' that evades notice ... otherwise, we would have
been wise! The person is wise, not the mind... mind you! And when a
person is wise, it is the mind that gets noticed as a 'beautiful
mind'!!! (Does it sound more familiar, when we say 'wise-mind'...
or a 'wise person'...)...
Please see... when we just look
around... the eye pauses, the moment it notices something that does
not match with our memory.. (kids keep asking, 'what is that?' too
often... their database is yet to find something similar within it,
when they see it on the outside... We all are.... somewhere within
us... performing a 'de-duplication' task with our processor at an
incredible speed! Only that some of us are fond of tiring others
with the verbalising of the results, with a repetitious dialogue of
'I know it..'... And, even if the articulation of it is at a
speed, we are fond of listening to the repetition, like... when
that humble 'server/waiter' at a medium-cost-hotel, who repeats the
list of 'hot-dishes' at a great speed!
At my school, we kids used the word
'repeat' even to ask a fellow to beat/hit his victim yet again!
'Peett' in Hindi, is a slang to mean 'smash-hit' him... Re-peet...
was simply re-do it... re-smother him... (The reason, why this
funny way of coining it came about was... one of our teachers was
fond of asking us to 'repeat' the homework 7, 14, 21, 70 .. etc
times, yes.. it was multiples of 7 and to this day, none of us know
why it was so!... We all felt the re-peat so intensely that we
would have preferred some beating/'peeting' instead! Or.. maybe the
joke got into our head... 'kal' is tomorrow... what is parsoen?...
and we were told, 'tomorrow ke upar aur ek maro'! )... Kids
almost hate doing things they dislike, again and again... But if
they like something, they argue, that the previous repetition was
'yesterday'... not today! Good movies, we proudly declare having
seen the nth time!
Spirituality, when it engulfs us, after
those tedious repetitive practices of tools and techniques, releases
us from the concept of repetition itself... for... “we” already
are much-much 'earlier'... than all concepts!
Repetitively yours,
psn (10th July, 2013)
