Honesty without transperancy
Honestly is good, but transparency in honesty may create embarrassment for a few😜
A joke ( true incident)
1962 war
Our school's Principal echoed the "call' of the prime minister to contribute for 'National Defence Fund".
He told us in the assembly at 8:45 am "collect whatever you can. Coins okay. Money order to NDF is free in post office, by gourmet order"
The same evening, I went around the neighborhood of my home. Uncle & aunt of the same house I requested "small coins okay". Thus a long list of names, with 5 or 10 paise against each name.
My dad had said "come to me in the last"
Dad looked at the list, counted the coins, converted it into rupee-notes, and added his own ( 4 or 8 annas, not sure🙏)
Total was ₹ 4.65
Princi surprised at 8.30 am when I submitted the list with ₹4.65
He decided to announce in the assembly "one boy is very prompt. He collected ₹4.65. with a list. For his age, it is admirable"
In the evening, I showed the list to all the donors ( I had to convince them, I didn't swallow their five/ten-paise.
Joke : one uncle( childless) said :" If I knew, you will SHOW-AROUND that list like this, I would have given ₹1/- 😥"
At that age, I didn't understand why he said this. ( But after reaching 10th, I understood my stupidity. I should have shown only "Gave ₹4.65 total amount to Principal"(princi acknowledged on copy of list🙏)
Secretly yours,
